Douglas Reed is a distinguished performer, teacher, church musician, and recording artist. He has performed widely in the United States, Europe, and the Far East. The success of his students and his devotion to the art of teaching are acknowledged throughout the organ performance and sacred music fields. In 2005, he was listed among Who's Who of America's Teachers. He has taught at the University of Evansville since 1975.

Reed has performed in major world cultural centers such as Paris, Prague, Yokohama, Antwerp, and Hong Kong. In the United States, he has performed at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City and for many educational institutions and chapters of the American Guild of Organists throughout the United States. His performances have been broadcast on the PIPEDREAMS program and Radio Belgium.

Dr. Reed's numerous recordings of both traditional and contemporary music have garnered much critical acclaim. He performs as organist and harpsichordist on an ARKAY CD William Albright: Music for Organ and Harpsichord. His recording premiere of William Albright's Four Fancies for Harpsichord, originally released by the Eastman School of Music on the Pro Viva label, was re-released by Albany Records as part of Eastman's American Music series. Douglas Reed Performs on the C.B. Fisk Organ. Opus 98 and Douglas Reed Performs on the Taylor & Boody Organ include music by Bach, Brahms, Buxtehude, Distler, Frescobaldi, and Franck, and are available on Mulberry St. Recordings.

Douglas Reed's In Memoriam~William Albright, available on the EQUILIBRIUM label, was the first recording of C.B. Fisk Organ, Opus 110 in Minato Mirai Concert Hall, Yokohama, Japan. The two-CD set is the first in a series of recordings which will eventually include all of Albright's solo and ensemble organ music.


Douglas Reed's journal articles have been published by The American Organist and The Diapason. His North American Organ Music After 1800 appears in The Cambridge Companion to the Organ, published by Cambridge University Press.

Dr. Reed is a Professor of Music and the University Organist at the University of Evansville where he teaches organ and harpsichord performance, music theory, and sacred music courses. Many of his students have distinguished themselves as performers, teachers, and church musicians throughout the United States. He has led the development of a Sacred Music Certificate at the University of Evansville. He has received research grants and awards from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mesker Trust Fund, the University of Evansville, and the Friends of UE Music. He was also honored with the University's Sadelle and Sydney Berger Annual Award for Scholarship.

Douglas Reed began his musical studies in northern Michigan where his high school organ teacher was August Huybrechts, then director of music of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Petoskey. Reed went on to the University of Michigan where he earned the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Organ Performance as a student of Robert Clark, Robert Glasgow, and Kim Kasling.

Dr. Reed completed his formal academic work at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester where he earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance and Literature (Organ) and the coveted Performer's Certificate as a student of Russell Saunders.

Douglas Reed is a member of the American Guild of Organists, the Organ Historical Society, Phi Kappa Phi, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
