Zeca Lacerda - Vibraphone
José “Zeca” Lacerda is a percussionist and Professor of Music at the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso (Brazil). As a performer and advocate of new music, Zeca has worked with composers such as Steve Reich, George Lewis, John L. Adams, Elliott Sharp, Christian Wolff, Stuart Saunders Smith, Lewis Nielson, Thomas DeLio, Bob Becker, Roberto Victorio, Gabriela Ortiz, James Romig, and Jeff Herriott, having premiered works by the latter nine. In Brazil, he has performed with the country’s premier ensembles, such as the Brazilian and the Petrobras symphony orchestras. Recently, he is touring the state with the university’s percussion ensemble [re]Percute UFMT, for which he is the artistic director, after being awarded the grant from the Secretary of Culture of Mato Grosso. He has released an album of solo vibraphone music, through Soundset Recordings, and has published an article on Percussive Notes. Awards received include Percussive Arts Society and Zildjian scholarships. He earned a Doctor in Contemporary Music from Bowling Green State University, a Master in Music from the University of Miami, and a Bachelor’s in Music from Universidade Federal de Santa Maria.
